Join us online for an insightful conference on energy arbitration. This ICC YAAF event will provide an in-depth exploration of energy disputes in Africa, focusing on the role of international arbitration and ADR in addressing challenges in the oil, gas, mining and broader energy sectors.
The energy sector is a cornerstone of economic development in every country. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UN SDG) 7 underscores the importance of ensuring access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy for all. Yet, achieving universal electrification remains a formidable challenge, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, where over 600 million people lack access to modern energy.
Africa's vast energy resources, including oil and gas, are critical to addressing this challenge and driving economic growth. However, as the region continues to develop its energy sector, disputes are increasingly arising in relation to exploration, production, infrastructure development, and contractual obligations. These disputes often involve complex cross-border issues, high-value investments, and diverse stakeholders, making international arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) vital tools for resolving such conflicts.
This conference will provide an in-depth exploration of energy disputes in Africa, focusing on the role of international arbitration and ADR in addressing challenges in the oil, gas, mining and broader energy sectors. Through thought-provoking discussions with leading experts, participants will gain insights into the economic, legal, and geopolitical factors driving energy and mining disputes and learn about strategies to effectively mitigate and resolve them.
