Arbitration and Biofuel – Sustainable Dispute Resolution

13 Nov 2024

Singapore English
Start: 14:30 (SGT) - End: 17:00 (SGT)

With the burgeoning focus on biofuel as a sustainable fuel source across industries, the risk of disputes faced by players in the industry has increased. This seminar discusses, amongst others, the suitability of arbitration in biofuel disputes as well as the key points which pre-empt such disputes.

On 28 November 2023, Virgin Atlantic announced that it had flown the “world’s first 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel flight from London Heathrow to New York JFK” which showcased the potential of biofuel as a preferred renewable energy source. Biofuel is a renewable energy source derived from biomass, such as plants, algae or animal waste. Everyday sources of feedstock to create biofuel include used cooking oil (UCO).

With the increased push in decarbonization, consumers, business partners and investors alike look for demonstrable efforts toward environmental stewardship. Many industries are looking to biofuels as a leading light to lead the charge on sustainability. As with any burgeoning industry, the risk of disputes will also grow.

Join us for an engaging discussion on the direction of the biofuel industry, the common disputes that have arisen between feedstock sellers and purchasers and how arbitration has played a key role in resolving these disputes, as well as key points to note to pre-empt such disputes.
