ICC YAF: The Challenges of Online Case Management

Please join us for this online event to discuss practical issues which parties and arbitrators face when working with online case management tools and how to best manage those. We will discuss the issue both from arbitrator’s and counsel’s perspective.

During the past several years the arbitration community was looking for efficient ways of communication, conducting virtual hearings and sharing information whilst maintaining cybersecurity, dealing with the challenges of online hearings and ensuring data protection. The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic has crystallized this need and sped-up digitalization in arbitration. In response arbitration institutions began implementing online case management tools with the purpose to improve data security and enhance internal procedures (e.g., ICC’s Note on Information Technology in International Arbitration).  In turn, parties and arbitrators had to learn how to use these tools efficiently in a very short time period. At this online event, we will discuss what challenges arbitrators and parties face when using online case management tools (either those developed by the arbitration institutions or by the parties ad hoc) and what are the best ways of dealing with them.
