International arbitration proceedings are growing more and more common over the years in light of the steady increase in cross-border relations and the desire to find a neutral and fair venue to resolve disputes out of such international business relationships. With international relations comes different cultures and practices, the need for a common, known set of rules and practices to resolve international disputes becomes even more important. Nonetheless, even with existence of a neutral, fair tool with common parameters to resolve international disputes, the international nature of the situation will always present various, unexpected factors before the parties, tribunal, and arbitral institution.
Please join us for this ICC YAAF event, which will be held as a wrap-up to the week of the 8th ICC Asia-Pacific Conference, where two riveting panels consisting of international arbitration practitioners from all over the APAC region, namely Indonesia, India, Singapore, Hong Kong S.A.R., Mainland China and more, will share their personal "war stories" and insights taken from their experience with cross-border disputes.
Our first panel will take a look at popular seats of arbitration in the APAC region (whether popular for good or for bad) and they will discuss their own personal experiences with arbitrations seated in the region, dispel any myths that may be associated with each seat, and give a "real" perspective on arbitrations in the APAC region. In particular, the panellists will discuss and dispel myths of "dangerous" seats of arbitration, the competition between seats of arbitration, and provide their insights on the good, the bad, and the "real" ugly of each seat of arbitration.
Following a brief networking coffee break, we will feature a second panel of practitioners based in Hong Kong and Mainland China where they will "tell how it really is" for arbitrations involving Mainland Chinese entities including international arbitration proceedings seated in Mainland China, Hong Kong, or other parts of the world. Our panellists, who have firsthand experience, will discuss the realities of arbitration involving Mainland Chinese entities, the role of Mainland Chinese courts and government (if any), and the unique and beneficial relationship of having arbitrations with Mainland Chinese factors seated in Hong Kong.
The event is targeted at practitioners and professionals who are interested in international arbitrations seated in and/or having factors in the APAC Region. Students who are interested in arbitration are also welcome to join the event.
