ICC YAAF: Arbitration war stories - navigating international arbitration

22 Sep 2022

Online and Nairobi English
Start: 17.00 (EAT) | 16.00 (CEST) | 15.00 (BST) | 15.00 (WAT) || End: 18:30 (EAT)

Join our diverse group of lawyers and arbitration practitioners for earnest discussions on international arbitration. Our panellists will share their warstories on the challenges they have encountered while providing useful tips on arbitration procedure and the lessons learnt along the way.

In this hybrid conference, ICC YAAF Africa Chapter invites the panellists to share stories on their personal encounters with international arbitration. The good, the bad and the ugly.

The conference will be divided into two panel discussions. In the first panel, our speakers will share stories on: (i) representing a state party in a high profile investor-state dispute; (ii) navigating international arbitration mooting competitions; and (iii) building a successful international arbitration practice. Our second panel will share stories on: (i) the academic pursuit of international arbitration and broadening your horizons; (ii) working as a case counsel for a leading international arbitration institution (iii) managing multiple witnesses and experts in a complex arbitration dispute; and (iv) developing the skills required to overcome pitfalls in construction and energy disputes.

The discussions will provide attendants with useful insight on: overcoming challenges at work; the soft skills required to survive in international arbitration; and finding opportunities and thriving in international arbitration from the perspective of an interesting group of young lawyers and arbitration practitioners.
