International Day of Persons with Disabilities: “Look both ways"

03 Dec 2021

Online English
15.00 (CET)

The ICC International Court of Arbitration is happy to present a virtual event marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. To highlight this occasion, Claudia Salomon, President of the ICC Court will interview Brooke Ellison. Ms Ellison was the first person with quadriplegia to graduate from Harvard, where she received her undergraduate degree in cognitive neuroscience. Ms Ellison returned to do a master’s in public policy at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.  She now has a PhD and is an Associate Professor at Stony Brook University, where she teaches and studies health policy and medical ethics. Ms Ellison will talk about her journey, fighting physical disability with incredible strength: “For every obstacle, I have sought opportunity. In each instance of sorrow, I have sought strength. When there has been challenge and adversity, I have looked for resilience and hope.”

The event follows the announcement of the creation of a new ICC Task Force on Disability Inclusion in International Arbitration. The Task Force will study ways for ICC to accommodate those in the arbitration community who may need changes in the way they work. The leadership of this new task force will be announced during the event.
