In this event, several world-renowned experts in international arbitration practice, arbitrators, in-house counsel, chief financial officers, ICC Court members and Secretariat counsel will engage in discussions and share their insights on topics regarding appointment of arbitrators and case management techniques and strategic considerations; they will also answer questions raised by participants in relation to ICC arbitration.

Appointment of Arbitrators

In this session, the moderator and the panellists will engage in discussions from the viewpoint of the arbitrating parties (users), arbitrators and ICC to explore various practical issues and strategies in relation to the appointment of arbitrators.  Topics of discussion include: (a) the powers, duties and role of arbitrators; (b) the importance of appointing suitable arbitrators; (c) steps/guidelines for the appointment of arbitrators; and (d) issues and matters to consider in choosing and appointing arbitrators.

Management of Arbitration

Using arbitration to resolve international commercial and investment disputes is based on the notion that arbitrations are more cost effective and efficient in resolving disputes.   ICC international arbitration offers a unique case management process -including case management conference and terms of reference, allowing the arbitration parties to plan, assess and prepare for various stages in an arbitration proceeding in order to properly manage/control the time and cost in the arbitration proceeding to resolve disputes as efficiently as possible.

In this session, counsel of the International Court of Arbitration’s Secretariat and Case Management Office will speak on the features of the case management process of ICC arbitration.   The ICC Court members, counsel, in-house counsel, chief financial officers, law practitioners and independent arbitrators will engage in discussions regarding case management techniques and relevant strategic considerations and share their experience and provide their comments.
