The PS4R event comes one year after the Paris conference on ‘The Role of the Private Sector in Economic Integration of Refugees’, which elaborated the Charter of Good Practice on the Role of the Private Sector in Economic Integration of Refugees.

The knowledge event will discuss how to move from knowledge sharing to operationalization of the principles outlined in the Charter. Speakers will be asked to: (i) present their stories (reflecting on the four key themes of: entrepreneurship, investment, employment, and products & services); (ii) reflect on how they have adapted during the covid-19 pandemic; and (iii) identify ways in which to engage with PS4R and how the initiative can best serve them moving forward. For the PS4R initiative, the event will be an opportunity to determine how its platform can best be used, moving forward, to support refugee entrepreneurs, businesses, humanitarian and development partners to strengthen their work and widen their reach.

The event will take place immediately prior to the Paris Peace Forum, and the outcomes of the discussion will be carried forward through PS4R’s engagement in the Forum.

Expected outcomes

By participating in the knowledge event, participants will be able to expand their global networks and help influence the way in which PS4R initiative will develop in the future. Following the event, the organizers will prepare a summary note to be shared on the PS4R website, highlighting:

  • Lessons learned on how global actors are pursuing entrepreneurship, investment, employment, and products & services to the benefit of refugees and host societies;
  • Inspiration for how businesses and refugees are adapting to the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic;
  • Ideas for how the PS4R initiative should be shaped, moving forward, to best support its networks – globally, regionally, and locally – to the benefit of businesses and refugees.
