In the first joint event of the ICC Africa Commission and the ICC Belt and Road Commission, hear from leading experts from different fields, including law, public policy, and business, on the Belt and Road Initiative in Africa - promises, challenges and dispute resolution. The experts will examine these issues from both African and Asian perspectives.

Panel 1: The BRI in Africa - promises and challenges

This panel will examine the promise and challenges of Chinese investment in infrastructure and other initiatives in Africa. Topics will include the ways in which investments are financed and structured, the social and economic impact of such investments, and incidental economic and corporate effects on other industries such as shipping and technology.

Panel 2: The BRI in Africa – Dispute Resolution: Perspectives from Africa and Asia

This panel will focus on the various types of disputes that may arise in the course of investments into Africa. It will explore the suitability of available methods of dispute resolution including hybrids such as arb-med-arb, and highlight recent developments such as Hong Kong – Mainland Arrangement on Interim Measures. Experts on this panel will also compare the appropriateness of various institutions available for BRI disputes, including the ICC, regional institutions, and the newly-minted commercial courts in China.
